Overview
Attributes are a content classification system in Ondexx that you create and define yourself.
Attributes are a powerful way to enable your users to search and find content in a site based on shared characteristics, rather than content itself.
An Attribute consists of a Key and a Value.
The Key is a name that you give to define a data set. The Value is a variable that belongs to the set. The power of attributes is that you can decide on the data type and available options for the value.
The creation and management of Attributes is handled at the Instance level, and therefore can only be managed by Super Administrators. However, Editors can change a page’s Attribute values in the Page Editor as a part of the Page Lifecycle.
Viewing a Page’s Attributes
Attributes can be found in the Details Overlay within a page, in the “Attributes” callout.
The Details Overlay can be opened by clicking Details, or by pressing ]. The Attributes callout will be found near the bottom of the list.
Filtering on Attributes
Attributes are exposed as a Search Filters in the Search-as-you-type Search Bar, and as Facets in the Guided Search page. These can be used to find pages that only have certain values in their Attributes.
To add an Attribute filter to the Search Bar…
- Open the Filters dropdown on the right of the Search Bar.
- Select the Attribute you would like to Filter on from the bottom of the list.
- Click on the Filter underneath the search bar, and select the criteria for your Filter.
To add an Attribute facet to the Guided Search page…
- Navigate to the Guided Search page with the link to the right of the Search Bar.
- Search facets appear along the left side of the page. Click the Attribute you would like to filter on to open the facet.
- Select the criteria of the facet you would like included in search results.
Note: No query is necessary to use Guided Search facets – you will see all pages that meet your facet criteria.
Editing Attribute Values
Attributes are a part of the Page Lifecycle and their values can be edited with the Page Editor. They can be changed in the Attributes tab.
Attributes have a specific input type. These include:
- Checkbox (boolean value)
- Date (presents a date picker)
- DateTime (presents a date & time picker)
- Dropdown List (select a single value)
- Checkbox List (select multiple values)
- Numeric Input (only accept numbers)
- Text Input (enter a single-line of text)
Attributes can be marked as required. These fields must always have a value, and are marked with a red *. If left empty, Editors will be unable to submit the page for approval.
Attributes can also be modified in bulk with the Bulk Changes Console. For more information on using the Bulk Changes Console, refer to this help article.
