Background
Emails that are unable to be delivered to an email server will return an error called a bounce. Depending on the reason, these can be categorized as either a soft bounce or a hard bounce.
Soft bounces
A soft bounce is a temporary reason that an email cannot be delivered. For example, a soft bounce would occur if an email is sent to a valid address, but the recipient’s mailbox is full. Another typical example is a vacation notice.
Hard bounces
A hard bounce is a permanent reason that an email cannot be delivered. This is often due to the recipient’s email address being invalid. In Ondexx, a hard bounce is typically caused by a mistyped email address, or because the email address has been removed from the recipient domain’s email server (e.g. an employee that is no longer with the company).
Too many hard bounces can cause issues with email sending services, as a high bounce-rate can be a sign of a spam email.
Hard bounce mitigation
Ondexx has mitigation to prevent resending emails to hard bounced addresses. If an email sent to a user’s email address returns a hard bounce, the user’s account will be flagged as Hard Bounce. Accounts with this flag will not have any further emails sent to them.

Accounts with this flag can be seen in user management menus in the “Hard Bounce” column, along with the date when this flag was set.
This flag can be manually set or removed by User Admins and Super Admins in the User Management Console. Simply check or uncheck the corresponding box in the Hard Bounce column.
