Domain Management in Ondexx

Background

Domain names are used to access websites using an easy-to-remember text-based address, rather than the numerical address used by internet protocols behind the scenes. Each Ondexx instance has at least three different domain names: one managed and provided by your organization, and two managed and provided by Red Wolf.

Each of these three domains are configured separately for Single Sign-On. This can be configured such that each domain uses different Identity Providers, or that only certain domains have Single Sign-on enabled.

Super Administrators can review the domain names for their instance under Configuration > Application Settings.

Ondexx also has support for display domains, which are additional, alternate domains that point at Ondexx. Display domains are best used as an alternate domain for external users, as they cannot be configured for Single Sign-On. Display domains also allow one to display alternate content on the landing page, and other Content Elements.

Primary Domain

The primary domain name for an Ondexx instance is managed and created by your organization, and is where the instance will primarily be accessed. This is usually a subdomain of your organization’s main website, and will usually use the branding name for your Ondexx instance.

For example, your primary name might be “ondexx.yourcompany.com” for an Ondexx instance named “Ondexx” by your organization.

Secondary Domain

An instance’s secondary domain name is created and managed by Red Wolf. This domain serves as an emergency backup in the event the instance is inaccessible from the primary domain.

This domain follows the format “yourcompany.ondexx.net”.

Deployment Domain

An instance’s deployment domain is also created and managed by Red Wolf. This domain is used to preview new versions of Ondexx for user acceptance testing (UAT) when necessary and will be inactive when not in use.

This domain follows the format “deployment-yourcompany.ondexx.net”

Display Domains

Display domains are additional domains that point at an Ondexx instance, managed and provided by your organization. Display domains are best used as an alternate domain for external users, as they cannot be configured for Single Sign-On.

Display domains can also use different Content Elements than the primary, secondary, and deployment domains. This allows Content Elements (like the login page or dashboard) to be tailored to the users who would access your Ondexx instance from a given display domain.

Please note that each display domain will require an SSL certificate which your company will be responsible for providing.
